Abusive Relationship Health Tips – How to Keep the Weight Off and on in an Abusive Relationship
Some people lose weight and get real skinny when they are being abused; others gain weight and become fat.
During my ordeal with family violence, I become so emaciated that people said I looked like I was from a third world country. No, I was just missing meal after meal while on a legal-stalking paper chase.
Both excessive loss of weight and excessive weight gain have unhealthy consequences and compromise your stability when you need it most.
Here are some eating tips to insure that you manage your weight while in, and after, an abusive relationship:
1) Eat when you are hungry. On a hunger gauge from 0 being empty to 100 being Thanksgiving full, eat when your inner hunger is about 25.
2) Stop eating when you are full. Using the same hunger gauge, pull away from the table, or remove your plate from in front of you, when you are at about 75.
3) Eliminate processed food from your diet and move to unprocessed whole foods (fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, grains…you have heard it over and over.)
4) Whenever possible cook your own meals and allow the digestive process to begin by the sites and smells of your cooking and meal preparations.
5) Leftovers are okay one meal after…and beyond that are best in the garbage.
6) Remove the salt from the table, and keep canned sodas off the table and out of your diet as much as possible.
7) After dark, keep it light. Avoid heavy foods and those that are high in protein late in the evening.
This one is from Deepak Chopra. While on retreat he’d say, your ideal amount to consume at mealtime is equal to what you can hold in the palms of you hands cupped together.
