We are going to be dormant over the summer.  However, when we return for the Fall semester, we will be working on a few select projects.  These include our anti-sweatshopping campaign, increasing anti-war sentiment (what with it being election season and all), and working on getting better rights and benefits for CofC staff, who are extremely under-appreciated.  So stay tuned to this website and the Facebook group and be sure to come to the first meeting.

Our main event for our campaign against sweatshopping will take place on April 24th, which is Reading Day for CofC students.  We will be meeting at the Marion Square fountain (time TBA).

Also, Angela Davis will be speaking at Kresse Arena on Monday night at 7:00 PM.  THAT will be our next meeting, rather than at the Stern Center.

Ok, we have decided that we will be tabling again over the next two weeks.  In order to table effectively, we will have two “making stuff” nights.  The first will be tonight, at 9:00 PM, at Andrew’s house (check the email you should have received for the address).  The second will be Sunday night at 7:00 PM at Sarah’s and Eve’s house.  Please bring stuff to make cookies, flyers, t-shirts, buttons, and anything and everything else you think we should make.

Our current campaign is against sweatshopping, and tying into that is human trafficking/modern slavery in general.  Please come to the meetings to hear us discuss what we will be doing about this.  These making stuff nights count as meetings.  Our next official meeting will be Monday next week, Stern Center, 3rd floor, lobby.

The meeting on Monday, 31 March will be important.  We are going to mainly discuss two things:  our campaign against sweat shops, and how to handle all of our meetings from now on.  Please bring any ideas of how we should conduct our meetings (so they can be more efficient and so -everyone’s- voice can be heard) and what we should do to fight against sweat shops (as it turns out, CofC deals with brands that are very guilty of running sweat shops in the least industrialized areas of the world).

Ok, so one thing that came up during the Monday meeting was SDS buttons.  Nique has an awesome one that he’s been sporting lately, and I’m a little jealous.  What to do?

Here’s the solution.  I’m going to mail $5 (5 solid American good-as-gold dollars) to our good friend Tom Good in New York, who will then mail me back 100 (that’s right, one fucking hundred) buttons with the SDS logo on it.

What will you do with these?  Wear one of them, of course.  Use the rest to recruit people.  Give them to your friends.  Make sure that everyone you know recognizes SDS, whether they agree with it or not.  There’s no such thing as bad press.

Email me (using the contact page, link to your right) and I’ll send you Tom Good’s contact info so you can get your buttons.

Welcome to the brand new website for the College of Charleston chapter of Students for a Democratic Society!  Here you’ll be able to find news about the happenings with our chapter.  You’ll also find photos from our events (coming very soon) and information for upcoming meetings.
